one woman’s work toward

individual and collective freedom,

and what i’m learning along the way

i’m dana. i’m a student of life, a deep listener, a creative — dancer, choreographer, educator, writer, visual artist, budding music maker, etc.

my perspectives and my being are informed by working class origins, life on the so-called “color line,” and lifelong study of and immersion in the creative legacy and freedom song of the african diaspora. i am because of my lineages and my living loves.

i dance. i choreograph. i teach. i write. i edit. i doodle. i transcribe. i curate. i listen deeply. i be.

i do these things first to create more free conditions for myself, and then to invite and support others to do the same.

my purpose is to cultivate languages, content, and spaces that bring us closer to freedom by honoring truth and embracing complexity.
